This project was carried out by the University of Otago in a joint program led by the University of Canterbury. The project explored future trends in renewable electricity generation and household demand, together with developing in-depth knowledge of electricity networks and power management, to ensure that New Zealanders have access to reliable, safe, and affordable renewable energy.
Data description (abstract)
The NZ GREEN Grid project recruited a sample of 25 households in each of two regions of New Zealand (Stephenson et al. 2017). The first sample was recruited in early 2014 and the second in early 2015. Research data includes: 1 minute mean electricity power (W) data collected for each dwelling circuit using Grid Spy monitors on each power circuit (and the incoming power); dwelling & appliance surveys; occupant time-use diaries (focused on energy use).

Data sourcing, processing and preparation: |
Full data processing and cleaning information is given in the documentation. In summary, the archived household power demand data was derived from the original Grid Spy data and is made available as a single compressed .csv file per household. The household attribute (survey & appliance) and time-use diary data was derived from several original project data sources and is made available as single .csv files which can be linked to the household power demand data via an anonymised ID.
The data may be used for any commercial or non-commercial research purpose provided that no attempt is made to identify data subjects.
