A unified data set of covariates for investigating the causes of early childhood primary school level performance. Unified based on school level regions computed as the voronoi cells for all schools (geolocated from the Malawi Spatial Data Platform). Covariates contributing to this data set are from the following sources: The 4th Integrated Household Survey (IHS4) [https://microdata.worldbank.org/index.php/catalog/2936/data-dictionary], two birth cohort studies (IMPROVE and REVAMP), the Malawi Spatial Data Platform [http://www.masdap.mw/] and protein consumption data [an extension of the IHS3 data set: https://microdata.worldbank.org/index.php/catalog/1003 by Molly Muleya, Edward Joy and Kevin Tang from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine and the University of Nottingham]. Data fields, other than the regions, are not available for public release and have been replaced with NULLs. Full meta-data for all fields is provided. See Section Notes on access for more information.

NOTES ON ACCESS:
This dataset is a demonstrator of the types of datasets that can be automatically realized by the Prototype Malawi Unified Data Platform developed as part of the ESRC Grant: ES/T01010X/1. This demonstrator dataset represents the extraction of data at a sharable level of aggregation in order to investigate causes of
early childhood adversity. The data is a unification and re-aggregation of data from six disparate sources: The Malawi Integrated Household Survey (IHS), Malawi Demographic Health Survey (DSH), two birth cohort studies, the Malawi National Examinations Board (MANEB), the Malawi Spatial Data Platform and protein consumption based on further markup of the IHS data source. In this data release columns for data from the birth cohort studies, IHS4, MANEB and the protein consumption markup have been replaced with NULLs as this data cannot currently be openly released. For more details see the data dictionary accompanying the data. Additionally the output variable which is provided by MANEB is not released. This data can be requested via MANEB and easily added as the output variable to this dataset. Interested researchers should contact the PI of the ESRC Grant: ES/T01010X/1 to discuss access. Equally access requests to code to build the database from the original data sources and/or discussions about access to the pre-built database should be sent to the PI of the ESRC Grant: ES/T01010X/1.
