Below is an overview of the folder structure of the 2 country case study directories (Rwanda & South Africa) In each country directory the same folder structure is used: 1 Overview 2 Policy 3 CPD case studies and textbooks 4 ITE and school case studies 5 Country reports 6 Research Instruments Country folders descriptions: 1 Overview -> provides and overview of the country directory / folder 2 Policy -> contains data and documents relevant to the policy research and fieldwork 3 CPD case studies and textbooks -> contains data and documents relevant to the fieldwork and research into continuous professional development and civil society organisations 4 ITE and school case studies -> contains data and documents relevant to the fieldwork and case studies of initial teacher education programmes and schools 5 Country reports -> contains relevant outputs of the research project including country policy briefs and country reports 6 Research Instruments -> contains relevant instruments used within the research project for each country. Confidentiality and notes on access: Informed consent forms and confidentiality agreements are contained within the data collection file bundles for each country. This data collection should be safeguarded as interviewees include politically exposed figures holding public office, historically conflict-sensitive issues and identifiable public and private institutions within each country context that are closely engaged with such issues. The cautionary measures taken to safegaurd this data include user approval by the data owner. As such please note that all data is to be treated with the utmost confidentiality and its use requires the approval of the PI. Transcripts: All interviews and focus groups transcribed during the course of the research are subject to confidentiality agreements. The names of people are removed from these transcripts and are replaced by [NAME] or or in places [Interviewee]. In certain cases the names of public figures, referred to in relation to public events or government policy are retained. For example: In 1994 Nelson Mandela's government introduced policy X' or 'the Ashley Kriel project is based in the Western Cape'. Similarly when referencing the opinions of public figures (such as government officials or academics) indirectly within the public domain, names are occasionally retained, for example: 'Now Jonathan Jansen says, well, as a country we’re doing pretty well in learning'. In each country certain interviews or focus group discussions were not transcribed at all, and as such are listed within the transcript control sheet with a blank space or 'NO' in the columns titled 'sent for transcription' and 'received from transcriber'. Note on Rwandan transcripts: Due to the use of multiple languages within different interviews and focus groups, and the prevalence of code switching within these recordings between English and other languages, the Rwandan data collection contains mostly transcript summaries with their accompanying translations. English transcript summaries were produced by the local research team with the translation of original language in summary form. Not all of the recordings could not be transcribed into one single language for this purpose with full verbatim English transcription as no professional transcribers were available to facilitate this in-country. Note on South African transcripts: In the South African data collection the interview and focus group transcripts are generally in the English language, however in some cases the language used within the interviews is Afrikaans, with the transcripts kept in the original language. In these cases code switching betwen English and Afrikaans may also occur mid interview or focus group. In a few cases, interview transcripts summaries replace verbatim transcripts.
