Open Access Quantitative data (i) The raw SPSS survey data can be found in the file: Exploring_Play_Apps_Raw_SPSS_Data.sav (ii) A Dataset Guide, containing variable labels, value codes for closed questions and missing values, can be found in the file: Exploring_Play_Apps_SPSS_Data_Definitions.docx (ii) Tables containing statistical analyses of data can be found in the file: Exploring_Play_Apps_Stats.docx C. Open Access Qualitative data There is a folder for each of the families involved in the case studies: Family _1_Case_Study_Data Family _2_Case_Study_Data Family _3_Case_Study_Data Family _4_Case_Study_Data Family _5_Case_Study_Data Family_ 6_Case_Study_Data Each family folder contains the following: (i) Hard copy questionnaire scans- the parents were asked to complete a hard copy of the questionnaire as background information. These files are labelled by family i.e.: F1_Hard_Copy_Questionnaire_Responses F2_Hard_Copy_Questionnaire_Responses F3_Hard_Copy_Questionnaire_Responses F4_Hard_Copy_Questionnaire_Responses F5_Hard_Copy_Questionnaire_Responses F6_Hard_Copy_Questionnaire_Responses (ii) Floor plans of the home: each family completed a drawing, either on their own or with the researcher, which provided a rough layout of their home, for the purpose of a ÔPlay and Creativity TourÕ. This was a tour, either physical or through description, which enabled the researcher to identify the way in children interacted with toys and tablets in the space of the home. These can be consulted when reading the relevant sections of the interview transcripts. These files are labelled by family i.e.: F1_Floor_Plan F3_Floor_Plan F4_Floor_Plan F5_Floor_Plan F6_Floor_Plan The Floor Plan for Family 2 is restricted access as it contains a photograph of a child. It is in the ÔF2_ PhotographsÕ folder. (iii) The transcripts for each of the interviews undertaken with families are contained in a folder labeled ÔTranscriptsÕ. These are in folders labeled by family i.e.: F1_Transcripts F2_Transcripts F3_Transcripts F4_Transcripts F5_Transcripts F6_Transcripts Within the folders, transcripts are labeled by family number (e.g. F1), visit number (e.g. V1) then audio and transcript number e.g. (AT1), so the file name is as follows: F1V1AT1. The document Exploring_Play_Apps_Interviews.xls provides a catalogue of the interviews. C. Restricted Access Files These files contain personal data and are accessible with permission of the collection depositor. The files are: (i) Photographs were taken during the home visit by the researcher. In addition, children and parents took photographs between visits. These are in folders labeled by family i.e.: F1_Photographs F2_Photographs F3_Photographs F4_Photographs F5_Photographs F6_Photographs Within the folders, photographs are labelled by family number (e.g. F1), visit number (e.g. V1) then photograph number e.g. (P1), so the file name is as follows: F1V1P1. Sometimes, the photographs were discussed in the relevant interviews; at other times, they provided additional data for that particular visit to the family, but were not discussed in the interview. The document Exploring_Play_Apps_Photographs.xls provides a catalogue of the photographs and correlates these with the appropriate interview transcript. (ii) Videos from the case studies, taken by the researcher, parents and children. These are labelled by family. There are multiple folders for each family, containing video files. The folders are: Family_1_Videos_1.zip Family_1_Videos_2.zip Family_2_Videos_1.zip Family_2_Videos_2.zip Family_2_Videos_3.zip Family_3_Videos_1.zip Family_3_Videos_2.zip Family_3_Videos_3.zip Family_3_Videos_4.zip Family_3_Videos_5.zip Family_4_Videos_1.zip Family_4_Videos_2.zip Family_4_Videos_3.zip Family_5_Videos_1.zip Family_5_Videos_2.zip Family_6_Videos_1.zip Family_6_Videos_2.zip Within each folder, the films are labelled by family number (e.g. F1), visit number (e.g. V1) then video number e.g. (V1), so the file name is as follows: F1V1V1. The logs for each video are contained in the following files, organised by family: Family_1_Videos_Log.xls Family_2_Videos_Log.xls Family_3_Videos_Log.xls Family_4_Videos_Log.xls Family_5_Videos_Log.xls Family_6_Videos_Log.xls In addition, a note from the mother in Family 4 regarding her submission of videos can be found in the following file: Family_3_GaynorÕs_Note.doc Sometimes, the videos were discussed in the relevant interviews; at other times, they provided additional data for that particular visit to the family, but were not discussed in the interview. (iii) Videos from the school observations of children using apps. These are organised by date the video was taken and there are multiple folders, containing videos, for each date. The folders are: 12_3_15_Videos_1 12_3_15_Videos_2 12_3_15_Videos_3 12_3_15_Videos_4 12_3_15_Videos_5 12_3_15_Videos_6 12_3_15_Videos_7 13_3_15_Videos_1 13_3_15_Videos_2 13_3_15_Videos_3 13_3_15_Videos_4 13_3_15_Videos_5 17_3_15_Videos_1 17_3_15_Videos_2 20_3_15_Videos_1 23_3_15_Videos_1 23_3_15_Videos_2 23_3_15_Videos_3 23_3_15_Videos_4 23_3_15_Videos_5 23_3_15_Videos_6 23_3_15_Videos_7 23_3_15_Videos_8 23_3_15_Videos_9 23_3_15_Videos_10 14_4_15_Videos_1 20_4_15_Videos_1 20_4_15_Videos_2 20_4_15_Videos_3 20_4_15_Videos_4 20_4_15_Videos_5 4_6_15_Videos_1 25_6_15_Videos_1 25_6_15_Videos_2 25_6_15_Videos_3 In each folder, the videos are labelled by school initials (MP), date of creation and number of video i.e. MP_12_3_15_V1.
