THIS README FILE PROVIDES DESCRIPTIVE INFORMATION ON: Filename: 20141219_KPMGReportComment.rtf Study Name: Sustainable resettlement and environmental conservation Depositor: Laura Jeffery Date of data collection: Various, 2014 and 2015 Report ID: R02 Author: Laura Jeffery and Rebecca Rotter Description of data: Invited comments on the KPMG BIOT Resettlement Feasibility Study process and Draft Report, prepared by Dr Laura Jeffery and Dr Rebecca Rotter, and submitted to KPMG and the Chagos All Party Parliamentary Group. During the KPMG BIOT Resettlement Feasibility Study process, Dr Jeffery and Dr Rotter attended almost all of KPMG’s consultation events with the Chagossian community in the UK (but not in Mauritius and Seychelles). At the so-called ‘pre-consultation’ stage in July 2014, this included a large community meeting and a series of face-to-face meetings in Crawley, and a small community meeting in London. Dr Jeffery and Dr Rotter received a written report from a participant at the community meeting in Manchester. They monitored KPMG’s reports and correspondence with stakeholders. They kept in regular contact with Chagossian community members, and Dr Rotter joined a working group of Chagossian leaders, community members, and supporters, which met regularly to discuss the consultation process and plan the community’s response. Following the publication of KPMG’s Draft Report in November 2014, Dr Jeffery and Dr Rotter submitted a written response to KPMG (independent of and not representative of Chagossian groups), and assisted in the preparation of responses by others. This file was prepared after the publication of KPMG’s final report (LINK).
